In 1985, Wolseley head Herbert Austin set about building 3 cars in his spare time. They were among Britain’s first cars, and, when the engineer left Woseley in 1905, he took the designs and started his own business, The Austin Motor Company.
In 1934, Nissan struck a licensing deal with Austin. In 1952 Austin ownership merged with Morris Motors, and joined forces with Healey to produce a range of sports cars.
The most notable Australian Austin models are the Lancer, the Freeway and the Kimberly.
